Alton Brown is Vice President of the North Carolina Region for BH Media Group. Mr. Brown is also the Publisher of the Winston-Salem Journal.
Mr. Brown is a graduate of Princeton University with a degree in history.
He has worked in the publishing industry for more than 30 years, starting in Macon, Ga., at The Telegraph as the quality assurance manager in 1986. From 1986 -1995 he held multiple positions at The Telegraph, including Assistant Production Director, Employment & Training Manager and Advertising Director. From 1995-1997 he was the Marketing Director for his hometown newspaper, The Union-Recorder in Milledgeville, Ga., before moving to Scottsdale, Ariz., where he served at the Vice President of Sales and New Business Development for Thomson Newspapers at The Tribune.
In 2000, he joined Gannett as Vice President of Advertising for the Newspaper Network of Central Ohio, and subsequently moved to Akron, Ohio, in 2006 to become Executive Vice President and General Manager for the Akron Beacon Journal. In 2013, he joined BH Media Group as the Regional Publisher in Lynchburg, Va. Mr. Brown began his position as Vice President of the North Carolina region and Publisher for the Winston-Salem Journal in May 2017.
